The guild tech allows you to improve certain stats of your heroes which isn't only bound to guild activities, but apply throughout the whole game. If you leave a guild you keep the points invested in tech tree.

The tiers are class specific (Warrior, Mage, Ranger, Assassin, Priest). In total it takes 231K Guild Coin Guild Coins and 77.2M Gold Gold to max one class. The costs are thereby scaling. One has to upgrade a skill at least 10 times in order to unlock the next skill below it.
